2001 Rover 25 number plate bulbs not working

I have a 2001 Rover 25 have just found that the number plate bulbs are not working. Car MOT'd 2 months ago with same fault but have just bought the car and believe problme rectified. Also find side lights come on sometimes even though not switched on on the instrument panel. First question is what could the problem be with the number plate bulbs and does it possibly relate to the sidelight issue. Any help is greatfully received. Thanks.

Number plate lamp could have a bad earth..Check earth wore fo break or bad gground. Side lights sound an intermittant short circuit or bad switch...Good luck

Need to test for power to number plate bulbs and try to find out where the side lights are getting their power from when not switched on.

i think that this model gets its feed thorough the tail gate and the cable breaks through frequent use of tail gate check the loom near the tale gate hinge
