Hi

I too had a similar problem with my wife's Rover 25 which would sometimes judder or hesitate, especially when going up hills. After carrying out the procedure below the fault disappeared.

I dismantled the ignition system leads and pulse/ignition transfomers and discovered that there was severe powdery corrosion at the spring pressing on the first plug at the left hand side, underneath the pulse/ignition transformer. To access this you need to remove the transformer and pull off the thick rubber shroud leading from its base to the plug. It's then very easy to remove the powdery residue with a brass brush and then smear some silicone grease over the repaired area. It's also a good idea to pull on the spring to extend it slightly to ensure that good contact with the plug is always maintained. (The other transformer was in excellent condition and needed no attention.)

Hope this helps!
