when car is cold the engine is ok but if u go out get the engine hot leave it to cool down for a while when u start it again it will misfire for a while and kick out steam for about 5 mins then b ok the expansion bottle will have gone max to min .

sounds like the headgasket is on its way out have it checked out and you will most likely need a replacement
