2000 Rover 200 noisey engine

Car: Rover 200
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.4 si
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
when i start the engine from cold, a loud knocking noise is heard from the top of the engine. This noise disappears after a couple of mins, after the engine has warmed up.
The noise is not present if the car is started when the engine is warm.
If the engine revs are held at approximately 2500rpm the noise is not present.
Have flushed the engine with engine cleaner and put additive in the petrol to releive sticky valves.

hi there, the 1.4 engine is prone to piston slap at TDC. if the hydraulic lifters have been replaced and the noise is still apparent, then this is next step for you. hope this helps!!!
