1998 Rover 200 engine; overheating and losing power

it hasnt been drove for 3 months and then when it was being drove the other day it was fine for a bit then started to lose power when accelerating and started to over heat please help what could it be?

Check coolant level first , many causes of overheating .Some simple and others major on that car , like very common head gasket .But check water level first .

most common fault with these engines is headgasket failure,check for oil/water contamination in cooling system and engine oil,if this looks ok then get a block test done,carry out pressure test on cooling system and check for leaks,normal culprits are water pump,thermostat,coolant rail or inlet manifold gasket

but what could make the car lose power as it was drove before and was absouloutley fine then got left for 3 months and all problems start when drove it drives fine then 20 minutes into driving i can put the revs on full and it wont move
