1998 Rover 200 expansion tank water boiling

Car: Rover 200
Year: 1998
Variant: rover 216se coupe
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
I have recently noticed that the expansion tank water is boiling and coming out of the cap. I am today going to replace the cap. If this does not help what else could it be.

hi,poss head gasket,if you go to your local garage they can do a quick & simple test to check it.

You could check that it is nothing simple like the thermostat jammed closed which would cause this .If not that and system still pressurising , could be cyl. head gasket for which that car is notorious for failing . If you get a sniff test (block test ) that will confirm whether that is cause . If so , far bigger job to do right .
