1996 Rover 200 car starts but loses power and drains the battery

Year: 1996
Variant: 214sei 1.4 16 valve

i have changed the battery and starter motor so that rules them both out the car just takes all the power out of the battery! i had an oil leak by the alternator and im wondering if maybe this has broke the alternator as iv said iv changed starter and battery and cannot think of anything else it could be appart from alternator but wouldnt a back up oppinion many thanks

yes you need to replace the alternator as this is what charges the battery and if its not charging then you will have problems.
so replace it as soon as poss or you will need a new battery again as all the electrics in the car will just drain the battery until there is about 7volts remaining in the battery and then you will just have problems as batterys dont like being discharged and recharged as eventually it will burn out cells in the battery
