2000 Rover 200 struggles to start

my car sometimes struggles to start, although it eventually does. the engine turns over but wont fire up. also ocassionally it kind of stutters when driving. any ideas would be most welcome

have the headgasket tested as the rovers are very common for this problem could even be just requires a service
