2006 Renault Modus high fuel consumption

Car: Renault Modus
Year: 2006
Variant: 1.4 Expression
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
Hi.

I bought this car two weeks ago. Unfortunately it's consumption is very high. On flat road, I push the accel. pedal about two millimeters and drive with 50km/h,but the meter shows that current consumption is for example 10 l/100KM.

On hills, it goes up to 18-25 l/100km !!!

When I drive down the hills, I don't push the pedal, so the consumption shows ZERO.

I don't drive very fast, most of the time below 60km/h, no fast acceleration, etc.

With this fashion, the average consumption is 11 l/100km.

The car manual service shows that 3000KM before buying the car, it has a minor service; air, oil, and fuel filters and spark plugs have been changed. I checked the spark plugs and air filter and they were new.

So I cannot imagine what else should be changed to fix its consumption.

Any idea?

Rather than go by a gauge / readout which may be faulty , check your fuel consumption by topping up tank and then refilling after so many miles to give more accurate reading .

I checked the half tank. I filled 17 liters when the the meter started blinking. After 140km it started blinking. So the average consumption is: 100*17/140 = 12.1 l/100km

Dont use the " blinking " gauge , that can be faulty and inaccurate .
