usually a sign of a head gasket going leak between oil and water way

The gasket/seal in the thermostat housing has failed and the engine oil pressure is forcing a small amount of engine oil past the gasket into the water cooling system which first shows as oil sediment in the water bottle in the engine compartment. A further sign is oil leaking from the thermostat housing on to the outer side of the engine and gearbox. A thermostat housing replacement is the only solution.
