Clicking sound

I have a clicking/knocking sound on the left hand side of the car when i turn the ignition on and when the engine starts,and then stops when the engine starts running any ideas

Could be a sticking relay ? Can you not trace where the noise is coming from ?

also might be a poor starter connection causing the starter solenoid to chatter check the connections around the starter

Sounds like the solenoid,should be easy to listen under the bonnet and locate the origin of the noise.Good luck.
