2006 Renault Megane loss of power

Car starts to spasmodically lose power on lengthy trips in excess 100km. Seems to miss then loses power. Problem gets progressively worse. Have to stop when total loss of power. Turn engine off and wait a while can then drive a short distance until problem recurs, Car will not hold revs when problem presents almost like running out of petrol. Problem sometimes seems to self correct after a time. Car does not present problem when start in mornings only after long trip. Not catalytic converter as this has been fixed.The car is petrol not diesel.
Mechanic says it is downstream sensor but this has been replaced. Can it be the wiring?

I have and still do suffer the same problem at times. I began to notice that it nearly always happened after a day of driving in heavy rain! This is how I fix it. Disconnect leads from plug caps. Use a 10mm. socket to undo retaining studs which hold down plug caps. Pull them up out of cylinder head and I can almost guarantee yo that they will be damp.Now to solve the problem you will need access to an high pressure air hose. Blow all moisture from plug tops and wipe totally dry. Place air hose into plug holes on cylinder head and blow all dampness out of there too,(mind eyes doing this). Spray WD40 on caps and into plug holes. Replace plug tops and drive on. It worked for me but I still dread wet driving days!! Can anyone suggest how moisture gets in here in the 1st place??
