yesterday my car started playing up. When driving i put my foot on accelerator the engine starts jumping, then picks up then drops then picks up. when sat idle the revs do not run steady. it does not do this all the time, I have seen two gararges and each time its running ok.

You dont say what engine in car , petrol , diesel etc .Depending on engine ,could be the very common fault , ignition coil / coil pack .

sorry first time, its a petrol and 1600.

No problem , ignition coil / coil pack are very often the cause on your car of engine misfire .Also check plugs .
