when i'm driving in low gears the engine is spluttering but is ok in 4th and 5th gear the spark plugs were checked and oil was found in 1 of the holes does anyone know what has caused this and how it can be fixed and is this the cause of the spluttering

Coil packs are a very common cause of engine misfire on that car but other possible causes also.

any ideas about the oil in the spark plug hole

On early cars they had problems with the valve cover gasket leaking oil into the plug wells and modified gasket. Oil / dirt building up in there can cause misfiring.
