driver side window wont open when you press switch nothing happens yet the other side no problem what could it be thanks

It is common for the steel wires that move the glass up & down to break internally.Place your ear against the door panel and operate the switch you should hear a faint humming that means the motor is ok.There is a cheap replacment wires kit on Ebay, but I have found the ends to be poor and come off very easyly.
R.S.Automotive do a whole unit excl motor for about £69.00 which is better than original and you can fit it in about 1hr.
