please please please someone help me i am going mad.
i bought this car 1 week ago now and havent had any problems until today. i drove down to tesco all fine and well not even stuttering got back in to come home and nothing not even trying to start, no noise nothing. all thats happening is the lights on the dash are coming on thats it no noise thats indicates dead battery, not even clicking like its the starter nothing. my father in law came to see it, was as stumped as me decided to bump it and it started no bother but once the engine is off its just the same. i would be so greatful if anyone has suggestions before i have to go to renault and i know we are talking about money i dont have just before crimbo. thanks leaannea

Hi, Happy Christmas! I used to work for Renault UK so you may be in luck here. I know its sounds silly but try this. Sit in the car (when it wont start) Lock the car with the remote key (assuming you have a remote key) and then unlock it, as soon as you have done this try to start the car immediately. The immobilizers on Renaults have a nasty habit of cutting in quite early and causing this kind of problem but locking and unlocking the car should reset the immobilizer. Let me know if it works and if not get me some more info and i will try to help further.

thanks for getting back in touch i tried this with no luck at all. my father in law seems to think its a wire from the starter loose but cannot locate the starter but i still believe its something to do with the immobiliser. any more suggestions would be great.

sorry again just to let you know i tried the car earlier and it worked fine but just now its doing the same do you think it could be something to do with the key imobiliser.

It could be a dodgy starter motor wire, does the red LED in the dash flash a lot when you try and start it?! If it doesnt do anything then the starter motor would be a good place to start.

did you buy car from garage as they have to give 3 mounths warrantee by law if not ring seller and sus out if they had problem.dont take to renault 1st try local auto electrician prob cheaper.or try test lamp on exciter wire (smallest)should give battery voltage only when key at pos 3 .if 12v and still no go light tap on starter scolonid while key on pos 3,if starts then new starter reqd.note mechanic reqd for this simple test!
