2001 Renault Megane megane shaking, and revs under 1000

Afternoon,
Got a lovely Megane 2001 1.4 16v, its been running perfectly fine for the past few weeks.
Today i was parking it up (after about a 5mile trip) when it started shaking?
Im not one for flooring it wherever i go or driving irratically.
The revs have always been at 500, which i thought was a little odd?
When driving its fine lacks a little power in 1st gear.
When i got back home i went round the back and it sounds as tho it could be misfiring? but im not sure what im listening for. all i know is it doesnt sound right?
Can anyone help me out, im not a car tech person so could you talk to me like a child lol.

Sounds like you have already made a good diagnosis, i suspect you are right that it is missfiring hence the loss of power, low idle, shaking, etc.
You would be best to get a code read first to see what fault codes are listed as this will also tell you which cylinder is misfiring, might only need new plugs
