2001 Renault Clio warning light but car running ok

A warning light with a pic of a motor has begun first flashing, then staying on, on the bottom right of the dashboard. The car is generally running ok, maybe slightly shaky when iddling, but in general ok. The guide book says to slow down and get to a renault dealer, but doesn't give problem, just to do with emissions?

Could be spark plugs/coil packs. Could get it scanned to find out exactly what is wrong.
