2000 Renault Clio fan inop. car over heating...

Car: Renault Clio
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.2 manual
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
coming home from work the temperature dash light came on, i got home and the engine was way hotter than it should be, i switched the engine off and left the ignition on to see if the fan was working, (it wasn't)ive checked the fuse which seems ok, ive been told that the heaters in the car and the fan are all connected so its not a wiring problem because the heaters still work, is it the fan switch or could it be something else?

yes it is the fan switch that sounds faulty remove the plug from the switch and bridge a piece of wire across the terminals and if the fan comes on then the switch is definately faulty if it doesnt then it could be the fan itself that is faulty you only need the key in the on position to test this as you dont need the engine running to do this test
