2000 Renault Clio car lost power and cut out

my sister started up her p reg clio this morning, drove for approx 0.5 miles stopped started up again then drove a further 500 yards, the car then lost power and stopped. it wont start again and only makes one "clicking" noise then nothing else happens, any ideas much app, thanks.

Clicking noise could be starter solenoid , due to flat battery .Tried jump start ? Checked battery ?

no she pushed into a parking space and left it.i never thought it would start with a flat battery so hopefully thats what it is , cheers

If not battery , make sure engine oil level and water o.k and engine not possibly seized .

It could start and if alternator was not charging , would eventually stop when battery was drained by using lights , heater etc .

i'm waitin on word to see if she checked any levels etc, it was a snowy cold morning so hopefully its more a case of the alternator draining the battery (i've no idea how serious or expensive that is)
