2002 Renault Clio wont go into gear 1st time of asking

wont go into gear 1st time of asking you have to bring the clutch up and clutch back down before it goes in to gear and its just 1st gear rest of gears seem to be fine its not all the time it seems to be worse when cars cold or just been started.
i would be grateful if you have any advise

the first thing to do if its mainly when cold is replace gearbox oil use a better quality like castrol syntrax universal 75-90 its thin so works better when cold
