2002 Renault Clio overly noisy

over the last few weeks i've noticed that my car is increasingly noisy. i would describe it as being like a growl, or a raspy kind of noise. i can't decide whether it's the engine or the exhaust, despite having listened to it.
the noise does get louder as i accelerate, and eases as i come off the throttle. there hasn't been any noticable drop in performance, and it's not over-revving.
i obviously need it looking at, but i'd like to be able to go with some kind of idea as to the problem.
your help would be welcomed.

could just need a service ,or,yes it could be a part of your exhaust,most places will check your exhaust,Free,ie kwikfit and so on.it could be a few things,but I would check these first.

i would say the exhaust is the problem as you have said the car is fine other than the noise problem so visit your nearest exhaust centre or garage for inspection as to what the problem is

i do think that maybe it is the exhaust too. the car had a major service about October last year, when it had quite a few bits done to it (at great enpense), so i'd like to think it wasn't the engine.
i'll have to get the exhaust checked - a friend of mine had a lot of problems with kwik-fit so i might give them a miss. any other 'chains' e good for this, or should i play safe and go to the dealer??

National,Budget,ATS,All will check for you ,free,main dealer might charge,???( you would have to ask first)
