1994 Renault Clio banging noise comeing from the rear

when going over uneaven surffaces and bumps a banging noise is comming from the rear sounds like a hammers hitting onto metal

Have you checked the spare wheel, tools and jack are secure?
(Sorry if that seems a bit obvious)
Also could be that an exhaust rubber mounting has perished/split/ come off and is allowing the tail pipe to knock on the car body.

Check rear s/absorbers and coil springs .
