1997 Renault Clio no gears except 1st

Hi this is my first car so I am clueless! I recently broke down with no gears. I can get 1st gear but none of the others, It is just about driveable slowly, as long as i don't over rev it. Is this the clutch or the gearbox as various garages are giving me conflicting answers. Please help

it is most likely to be the clutch as ive not heard of them having gearbox problems

Hi and thanks for the response it was the clutch. I managed to get it to a garage on my road and I have to say I have been totally ripped off. I was told that my particular car needed 6 hours to fix the clutch and it ended up costing me £475. I checked a few prices after and was gutted. So much for your friendly local garage!
