Clutch very difficult to engage smoothly

2002 Renault Clio 172
Car: Renault Clio
Year: 2002
Variant: 172
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Trying to engage the clutch in my 172 has become quite a bit more difficult lately. When engaged the clutch feels very strong and doesn't slip at all. It's just that trying to release the clutch in a smooth action is very tricky, it needs very cafeful clutch control to get off the mark smoothly.

It almost seems to bite a bit, then let go, then bite again. You need to feed in some power to stop it stalling sometimes.

Could the clutch cable cause this?

Sounds like the cable to me mate. Depending on how accessible the attachments are that should be a DIY fix I reckon.

Gavin ,as Rmar suggests try cable first . Easiest ,cheapest and common fault . If not that , got to be clutch assembly .
