2004 Renault Clio car "jumping" when driving

I've never had a problem with the car until now, but when I change gear, the car seems to "jump" or have a shuddering motion when the clutch is released, particularly after moving up into second gear. Obviously I need to take it to a garage but am just worried about what it might be and therefore the potential cost of repair. Can anyone shed any light on this?

You have not mentioned the mileage the car has covered, but it could possibly be clutch and flywheel related. Highpoints on the flywheel can cause judder when pedal released, usually occours as cluth wears or is very close to wear limit. A garage should be able to confirm this. replacing the clutch and either getting the flywheel skimmed or replaced should not be that bad a job, not sure on costs though

Thanks for that. There's only 27500 miles on the car, I've had it since Feb 2006 and there were around 7000 miles on the car when I got it.

Have just had the same problem myself with a 56 reg clio still under manufacturers warranty and it was the clutch. Waiting for the dealership to ring me back as they are trying to get 800 quid out of me for it!
I know there is an element of wear and tear there but I only bought it used 5 months ago and have done less than 5k miles and it was apprantly given a very thorough pre delivery service and inspection.
Hope you get somewhere cheaper than Evans Halshaw!
