2000 Renault Clio high revs when starting - cutting out

Car: Renault Clio
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.6 rsi
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
when i first start the car it revs relly high- about 3500 revs, and sits there for about 5 seconds then drops dramatically almost stalling, on a few occasions it has died on me a few hundred metres down the road then wont start, it also shakes alot when stationary, so much the gear stick wobbles.
it also feels some times like it wants to jump out of gear...

Possible an air leak after the throttle body, usual suspect is around inlet manifold gasket, with car running spray some WD40 or similar around inlet manifold area, if there is a leak the engine should pick up or run differently as it can burn WD40 better than air and fuel. This could be one of several faults, so may need further work
