Could be low battery , especially if not being driven as much recently . Could try running the car for a while at fast idle with non essentials on to let alternator boost battery and see if it helps .Other wise back to dealership to check under warranty .

Certainly the battery was getting low, so starting was slugish. However went on sereral long drives and the problem seemed to be fixed. Have also driven with the screen still blank, so the battery should now be OK. However have organised a Dealer inspection / service which if the system is faulty should be on warranty. Vehicle is only just over 6 months old. Thanks for the advice

Took the car into the dealer who corrected the problem very quickly. The car is six months old and has been fine up to two weeks ago.
The technician claimed that on the pre-delivery check some part of the multi-media screen circuitry should have been removed. Presumably this was some sort of circuit protection, rather like is seen in products with batteries ,where there is a protective strip between the terminals. I did not get the exact detail of what should have been removed, but whatever it was, was still in place. This was taken out and the problem immediately corrected. I did not talk to the technician directly ,so the question ' how come its lasted six months' was not answered.
It does however seem fine now, but I'm not entirely convinced by the explanation.
