2000 Renault Clio poor idle and loss of power

Car: Renault Clio
Year: 2000
Variant: 1.2
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
About 2 weeks ago my mrs car lost power and started stalling, it won't really go above 40mph and struggles when idling, I had a quick look under the bonnet and saw that there is a hole in the top of the chain case/timing belt cover, it looks like it should have a plug in it but i can't seem to find anything about it online, the car is using lots of fuel. the crank sensor has been cleaned and its not that, the map sensor is new so its not that either. Any help would be great
