2003 Renault Clio fuel guage or light incorrect

The clio's fuel guage says it is practically empty but the low fuel light isn't illuminated. When I go onto the inboard diagnostics it says there is 6 liters of fuel.
Any idea on what could be causing these?

Light might not come on till less fuel in tank , you have over a gallon if 6 litres left .Some dont come on till 30/40/ 50 mls left .Remember it is only a guide , not 100% accurate .
