1998 Renault Clio engine dies while driving

At any time (engine warm or cold) while driving the engine can just stop and revs drop to zero. Happens suddenly with no warning. Electrics stay on and I can usually start the car up again by putting the throttle down while turning the key.

Many causes , when was car last serviced / tuned ? Could be idle air control valve / IACV / Stepper Motor needing cleaned or replaced
