1999 Renault Clio drivers door lock

I have recently brought a Clio and the Drivers door does not lock manually with the key. If i sit in the car and push the button down it locks or if i press the central locking button on the centre console it locks the drivers door so why can i not lock the Drivers door from the outside. When i put the key in it just turns from side to side without locking the door. Can i repair it and if so how??

i would image the lock mech has dropped off, remove the door panel and have a good look at the lock area you will probably see whats wrong
