When in any gear and accelerating, sometimes the revs will quickly rush up to 5000 and then back down again quickly like you pushed down on the clutch without releasing the gas? is a intermittent problem but a pain and can happen in any gear, any ideas?

If it has a clutch cable it should be auto adjustment , later clutches were hydraulic . Either way if slipping , will need a new clutch .
