2001 Renault Clio starting problem

Car: Renault Clio
Year: 2001
Variant: 1.2 16v Sport

When trying to start the car it makes a electrical hum for 6 seconds or so then goes quite but all the electrics in the car work fine. the battery is fine but the car doesn't start all the time. for example I had too turn the key 3 times then it came on and another time i was their for 10 minutes trying to turn the key but nothing was happening the eventually the engine started. any ideas?

Is the engine turning over when this happens ?

No the car doesnt get to that stage at no point does the engine initiate.

I had the exact same problem with my Clio about a month ago and found that replacing the battery in the key fob and re-syncing the immobiliser, which is explained in this link - http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_reprogram_a_key_fob_for_a_Renault_Clio
It was back to normal and starting fine.
