2005 Renault Clio lights switch themselves on won't start!

This seems to be an intermittent fault. Last week the headlights kept flashing on and off and a message appeared on the dash to turn the steering wheel to start the car. The car wouldn't start. There was also a buzzing sound coming from the top right hand side under the bonnet of the car. Typical that when the AA appeared it stopped doing it. It was thought that it might have had something to do with the automatic headlights, which were switched off.
This morning the headlights switched themselves back on, the same message about turning the steering wheel has appeared again, the same noise and the car won't start again.
Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

Hi do.ob,
The AA guy did connect something to the car and told me that there were no error/fault messages appearing. He was totally baffled as to what this could be as it was the headlights and not the hazards. So he didn't give me any fault codes.
From what I can remember, the write up was that the steering was locked and a message said to turn the steering and start the car appeared but pressing the button and the break peddle wouldn't release the steering. There was a buzzing sound coming from somewhere under the bonnet. He disconnected the battery, recharged it as it was a bit on the low side, tried to start the car a few more times and it eventually started. I took the car for a run to charge the batter a bit more. But the car totaly pack in later on that day.
I have since taken it to a garage that specialises in Renault's. I told them what the car had been doing and he said that it sounds like it could be water in the electrics. Hopefully I will find out more today.

It turned out that the water had leaked into the UPS unit.
