2003 Renault Clio surging after changing up

When I change up the car seems to have a lull in accelaration and then surges forward. Not juddering, just surging - doesn't matter which gear I am changing up to, although actually not sure it has ever happened when I have gone into fifth.

Check plugs , leads / coil pack .
