2002 Renault Clio grinding noise when i pull away in first gear

i have had nothing but problems with my car, in july i had to have a new engine fitted, and yesterday a new exhaust from the manifold to the end, so ive already spent £975 :(.
Now there is a grinding/banging noise when i pull away in first gear, i took it back to the garage which fitted the exhaust and asked if it was that which was banging, they had a look but said it werent.
They did say that i would have to take it to a garage because of a square box behind the main engine the top comes off and they think it may be that which is making the noise, however it sounds to me like it is coming from outside the car.
Also as of about an hour ago my fans are not working, whether i turn the heating up or put the air con on, im getting nothing out of them.
Please help im getting so annoyed with paying out all this money.

If it wasn't making the noise before the exhaust was replaced it sounds like they have caused it somehow . Is the box they refer to the air cleaner box ? If not fitted correctly , could cause noise / rattle . Seems strange the garage couldn't fix it for you .Check your fuses for fan fault .
