1992 Renault 19 16v chamade

I,ve got a maximum reading of 15.6g on my trip computer. I tried changing the sender unit but it went to a low fuel reading (0_1g) and then it went back to max again when i pressed the reset button! Can you reset it another way or will i have to take it to a Renault dealer?
