Won't start

car stalled/shuddered to a stop when moving forward in 3rd gear (instead of 1st) whe n i tried to restart,engine turning over but not firing

Pretty much 100% that you've snapped the cam belt,there is a chain that connects and drives the cams,the belt drives only 1 cam,so if you put your finger down the oil filler hole,it's safe!done over 15 for test,and spin the engine over,if the cam belt is intact then you will feel the chain run under your finger,if it doesn't move the belt is broken.

Just a thought. Try resetting inertia switch. Red button under the bonnet i think they still had them on your vehicle.
