NO SPARK GOING TO ENGINE

1997 Peugeot 406 1.6
Car: Peugeot 406
Year: 1997
Variant: 1.6
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
We bought our car last year from a private dealer. After a week it was no longer working and the private dealer had changed their number etc so we couldn't contact them. That was now almost a year ago and we still can't get the car to go!! The car turns over but there is no spark going to the engine. All relevant wiring has been checked for any breakages but none found. The battery is fully charged. Someone told us it would probably be a faulty ECU. We replaced this but still the car won't run. It has a fitted immobiliser with only a red light on. For some reason this had been disconnected prior to us buying the car which apparently shouldn't have been done. We have no idea what else to do. We've had 3 mechanics look at the car and are all baffled. Please help us get this car fixed!!

From what you say ,sounds like might well be an immobiliser fault . Probably best to get an auto electrician to check out for cause rather than mechanics. No fault codes / warning lights showing ? Don't know if this post from another forum would help ,

206? 307? 406?

First thing, any other car keys with transponder chips on the same key ring? If there is then that could be the problem.

Next time it happens turn the ignition key to OFF & open the drivers door, listen for the key in ignition warning beep, If it beeps then the car knows the key is there via the transponder chip so it isnt the trasnponder aerial or key at fault.

If it doesnt beep then the car cant see the keys transponder chip, take the key out, lock & unlock ( makes the BSI go to sleep & then wakes up again ) & then try again.

I can see a new transponder aerial being fitted, happens a lot as the car gets older, the parts been modified a couple of times as well.

£15 for the part in the U.K. & easy 10 minute diy job.

Drop the plastic trim off from around the steering column, transponder aerial is the black plastic thing attached around the end of the ignition barrel.

Its also plug & play so no coding needed.

If you do change the part give the old one a rattle, most likely find its broken up inside.
