The car would rev up and down from 1000 to 1500 rpm when just standing, so i was told it may be the (air flow meter) so we changed that , and know it runs @ 1500, without going up and down , so we're half way there ... i don't know how to get it down and ticking over @ 800 ? as there is no adjustment i can see for the tick over !! please help ..pete

You might have an air leak on the inlet side some where, try spraying some WD40 around the inlet side with the engine running. If the engine picks up the you have a leak, might also be a fault with an idle speed valve if fitted.
Also check the accelerator cable for sticking if fitted.
