STOP indicator/Radiator fans

1997 Peugeot 406 2.1 TD
Car: Peugeot 406
Year: 1997
Variant: 2.1 TD
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
Driving normally, with temp gauge showing 80c, dash stop light came on and radiator fans started up at full speed. Remained on even though all fluid levels and indicated engine temp were ok. Remained on when engine switched off for around 5 mins. Next day, all back to normal. Any ideas? ECU problems maybe?

Not really concerned with the ECU on these,
fan/s run through relays controlled by the coolant temperature sensor/
check that first

Thanks for the advice, dealer thought the same. 2 sensors and 2 relays ordered.

Thought maybe it was the Bitron unit that controlled fans.

Thanks, dealer parts guy printed schematics showing where all components are. Bitron unit does look suspect.
Thanks for your help, much appreciated.
