My peugeot 406 DIESEL !997 accelerates unexpectedly on its own from time to time.This problem happens at intervals and its very disturbing, please help.

Which one of the FOUR engine sizes fitted to that year/model are we looking at hear?????

I would guess at a 1.9 or 2.1

Its a 1920cc engine and no cruise control features visible............A.Makotore explains

I have the same problem with my 406 it has the 2.1 engine. The problem occurs when there is no load on the engine ie running down a hill. The car is fine at other times and if you keep the revs above 2000 there is no problem. the problem seems to be at 1500 revs. I will have to scrap the car if I cannot find a solution. Any ideas?
