2002 Peugeot 406 oil sitting in wells just below head

Car: Peugeot 406
Year: 2002
Variant: HDI 110 estate
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Hi all, and another one for help with please..
There is oil sitting in the wells just below the head of the engine.. am I right in assuming this is the cam gasket leaking? I have ordered one and did mop it up to make sure it wasn't the previous owner spilling oil when topping up (as he claimed but is old oil) but it is refilling! I adore the car and it's the second one I've had.. my 75th car in 24 years driving!!! And no I haven't written off more than 2 cars in that time! Not bad for a girl!!!!!
Thanks for all help

I assume it is engine oil(black in colour) and not diesel.THe high pressure diesel pipes can leak and fill the area you are talking about

Thank you, will check. But is black and looks/feels like old engine oil.
