2001 Peugeot 406 car wont start without bump start

Hi all new to this , i have a peugeot 406 estate , when its running it runs fine . my problem is sometimes when i try to start it with the key it wont start without a bump start , other times it starts fine . I try to park on a hill jst incase it wont start in the mornings , but somtimes it starts no bother other times it wont. I dont think this car has an immobiliser because when i bought it i only got one key which is not a remote key , there for i have to use it manualy when opening the doors . I took it to a garage and they said might need a new ignition ?? Anyone had this prob b4 and had it fixed ? help please

When it doesn't start , does the engine turn over normally or is nothing happening when you turn the key ?

Hi there Legend , no the engine does not turn over , no noise nothing . But when i took it to a so called peugeot dealer he sayed there is nothing wrong with the starter motor or battery , he thinks it was the ignition ??

It's possibly a faulty ignition switch , but would be worthwhile checking all connections at starter motor/ solenoid first . Could also check all earth wires / cables . You could load test battery and starter if still having problems , assuming that has not already been done.

Thats what the peugeot dealer said, im thinking i should go back to him . Is this a big job and what do you think would be a reasonable price for this job ? The battery was tested in a Quickfit garage and they said it was fine also that starter motor was fine too . Do you think it would be worth my while to go ahead with getting a new ignition fitted ? Thanks For your help by the way , its much apreciated . :)

p.s ..iam female so not all that clued up on cae engines, but i will show my boyfriend your comments too . He will know what yr talking about more than me .lol but Thank u 4 yr help much apreciated .. i will try the stuff that you'v stated first b4 going ahead with new ignition . :)

Hi there legend, ment to say all lights still come on and electric windows go as normal when it wont start . soon as it gets a push along the street , it starts no bother .
