1992 Peugeot 405 rev counter fault

Car: Peugeot 405
Year: 1992
Variant: GRD 1.9 straight diesel not turbo estate
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
Hi, the problem occurs approx 5 minutes after start up when the rev counter suddenly stops working and goes back to zero. At the next start up it works fine and then stops again as described.
Does a rev counter have a cable? like the speedo? There is nothing in my Haynes manual about the rev counter but it does explain how to get the instruments out from the dash. The problem has been consistently with me for about a month. Your help and advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you-richard gibbs

they are electronically operated so what i would do is remove the dash clocks and jusy clean up the connections on the back and reconnect the connections and check the system before you refit it properly if this fails then you will be looking at a wiring fault or require a new rev counter
