I have a 2008 207 1.6VTI sport Auto and the display tells me I am in first gear for a long time then clicks over to 2 but never goes beyond this can anyone give me any advice. It is also very noisy.

Your best bet is to take it to a reputable , approved auto transmission specialist for scanning / diagnosing . Sometimes it can be a rather minor fault once checked out .
