2012 Peugeot 207 engine fault display

this morning Engine Fault display came on when started engine but quickly went out. is this something to be worried about?
I recently took car to garage I purchased from as slight backfire sound when changing from 1st-2nd or 3rd-2nd when in slow traffic. Also ratting tinny sound when slow in 3rd gear, like the exhaust is rattling. Garage said they couldn't find anything wrong and no fault light came on.
