2007 Peugeot 207 engine cuts out after starting from cold

I'm hoping to get some guidance as to the cause of the problem with my daughters 1.6 VTI petrol 207. The car starts every time without effort but if starting from cold ie first thing in the morning the revs drop straight after starting and the engine cuts out. You can overcome it by applying the throttle lightly for about a minute and then its ok and ticks over around 1000 rpm. I've tried pumping extra fuel into the carb before starting by turning igition on and off a couple of times and I can hear the feul pump operate but still get the same problem. I have also changed the oil as peugeot specify a thin oil for this car but no joy. Holding the clutch down when starting also has no improvement. It only happens from cold and no other signs of a problem when running, no faults identified on diagnostics. The car has done 39,000 miles. Any advise appreciated.

it could be a coolant thermistor problem or the autoadaptives may need resetting.Pumping the pedal before starting will not help.Being a modern vehicle it has fuel injection.The only other thing I can think of is the valve lift motor may be playing up.

Thanks for your response. Are the autoadaptives easy to reset and what could have caused them to change? Is there a way of checking the coolent thermister, I assume this is easy to locate and change on the engine block somewhere?

the only way to reset autoadaptives is to have a Peugeot planet diag to clear memory and reset learning values.at same time coolant temp can be read to see what sensor is reading.Might also be worth getting tech to check ecu and underbonnet fuse box for signs of water ingress

Mine had the coolant temperature sensor go which caused this fault you are describing. Replace sensor and it will likely be fixed
