Black smoke whilst cruising.

Using light throttle to maintain speed creates trail of diesel smoke behind the car for mile after mile, really embarrassing. Local peugeot dealer say no faults displayed on test equipment and are at a loss to know how to fix it. Friend says may be fault within FIP which is cheap to fix by brave DIY mechanic but he thought this was a 2.0 model. Am not a novice, serviced vehicle myself recently but never had an FIP to pieces. Does anyone out there agree with diagnosis. By the way this is an 8 valve HDI.

What colour smoke is it? is the car still under warrenty? and what is the FIP sorry not heard of that one yet, or do you mean fuel pump
Answered Jan 8, 2012 (12 years ago)
By FIP I meant the high pressure BOSCH pump sited down the back of the engine. I would describe it as black smoke as the tailgate of the car is covered in a soot like deposit. After dark the view through the rear view mirror makes it appear that the vehicle behind is driving through ground fog?

I thing you frst need to establish if you have a boost leak in the system as this will cause black smoke, try this first, have a very good look at any plastic pipes as split open and close so they are hard to spot

Thanks for that. I will take a close look, in daylight, this weekend. Will let you know how it goes. Thanks again.
